Thank you for joining us to learn more about the Co-Creation Model for Smart and Sustainable Urban Areas, developed as part of the Horizon 2020 SPARCS (Sustainable energy Positive & zero cARbon CommunitieS) project.
The co-creation model provides tools to support the development of different types of sustainable and smart urban areas in cooperation with city organisations, businesses, educational institutions, research institutes, other organisations and associations, and residents. The model describes the processes, methods and practices that support the development of sustainable and smart urban areas and the implementation of urban solutions at regional level in cooperation with different stakeholders. The co-creation model was shaped by the lessons learned from the development of the City of Espoo’s Kera region in Finland and the views of a wide network of actors. Case studies of the Kera area and the Soukka area were used as examples of how the model can be applied, after which the model was generalised to include a wider range of urban areas. The model is applicable to all urban areas and urban systems identified for development.
The model was developed by the City of Espoo in cooperation with WSP Finland and Korkia Consulting. The model was developed during 2022 in cooperation with various stakeholders. On this website, you can access the toolkit and find approaches for your own urban development projects.
The City of Espoo is creating a comprehensive and illustrative co-creation model for sustainable smart city areas. The model demonstrates how sustainable and smart urban areas can be developed in collaboration with the city organization, businesses, educational and research institutions, other organizations, and residents.
The objective of the model is to implement common goals for sustainable and smart solutions that are defined together with several stakeholders. Moreover, the aim is to integrate the defined solutions into the development of the region at various levels, creating benefits and improving the flow of information between different operators.
Kera region functions as the test platform for the Sustainable Energy Positive & Zero Carbon communities (SPARCS) -co-creation model, after which the model will be expanded to cover the whole Espoo region. The project will be completed by the end of 2022.
